Hino P24B1 Fault Code: Failure Of Pm Sensor (Open) (2 Digit Diagnosis Code 18)

Technical description 

Failure of disconnection for the PM sensor is detected from the self-diagnosis function of the PM sensor.

Description of Malfunction

Failure of the PM sensor is detected.

DTC set condition DTC 

Detection Condition

• PM sensor is active.
• Battery power supply voltage is in the range of 10 V to 16 V. 
• Starter switch remains ON (does not active for starter) for more than 5 seconds.

Judgment Criteria:

• Abnormal is detected by the error diagnosis from PM sensor.

Reset condition

• After normal operation is restored and the starter switch is turned LOCK. 

Indication, warning or system control regulation when the DTC is set

• MIL: ON

symptoms on the vehicle when the DTC is set

Symptoms on the Vehicle Due to Backup Control (Fail Safe Function):

• Overlooking of the DPF damage.

Pre – inspection work

• Check that the battery voltage is in the normal range.

After – inspection work

• Clear all past DTCs.
• Check that no DTC is detected after test drive.

Possible causes

• Failure of the PM sensor.

Inspection procedure

Troubleshooting steps

Step 1) Failure of the PM sensor.

1. Set the starter switch to the “LOCK” position. 
2. Connect the vehicle to the diagnostic tool. 
3. Set the starter switch to the “ON” position.
4. Select [Engine] and check if P24B1 has been detected.

Has DTC P24B1 been detected?

Step 2) Check the PM sensor harness.

• Check the harness on the controller part or the head part of the PM sensor as if there is the damages or other abnormalities.
