Hino P0016 Fault Code: Crankshaft position sensor and camshaft position sensor – rationality
TECHNICAL DESCRIPTION
− A phase difference (deviation) between the crankshaft position sensor (Engine speed main sensor) and camshaft position sensor (Engine speed sub sensor) is diagnosed.
DESCRIPTION OF MALFUNCTION
− Detect the phase difference between crankshaft position sensor (Engine speed main sensor) pulse and camshaft position sensor (Engine speed sub sensor) pulse.
DTC SET CONDITION
DTC Detection Condition:
− Starter switch ON. − Battery voltage is in the range of 10 V to 16 V. − Engine speed is in the range from 700 to 1,000 r/min. − Engine coolant temperature is 600C {1400F} or higher. − A difference between an actual engine speed and a target engine speed is 20 r/min or less.
Judgment Criteria:
A phase difference between the crankshaft position sensor (Engine speed main sensor) pulse and camshaft position sensor (Engine speed sub sensor) pulse remains 130 or less or 230 or greater for 1 second or longer.
RESET CONDITION
After restoration to normal condition.
INDICATION, WARNING OR SYSTEM CONTROL REGULATION WHEN THE DTC IS SET
− MIL: ON − SVS light: OFF
PRE-INSPECTION WORK
Check that the battery voltage is in the normal range.
AFTER-INSPECTION WORK
− Clear all past DTCs. − Check that no DTC is detected after test drive.
POSSIBLE CAUSES
− Miss assembly of the camshaft gear. − Miss assembly of the flywheel. − Miss installation of the crankshaft position sensor (Engine speed main sensor). − Miss installation of the camshaft position sensor (Engine speed sub sensor).
INSPECTION PROCEDURE
TROUBLESHOOTING STEPS
Step 1) Inspect the camshaft gear.
Check that the camshaft gear is properly assembled. NOTE: Refer to the Timing Gear information.
Were any failures found?
| Yes – Assemble the camshaft gear properly. Refer to the Timing Gear information. | No – Go to Step 2. |
Step 2) Inspect the flywheel.
Check that the flywheel is properly assembled. NOTE: Refer to the flywheel and flywheel housing information.
Were any failures found?
| Yes – Assemble the flywheel properly. Refer to the flywheel and flywheel housing information. | No – Go to Step 3. |
Step 3) Inspect Crankshaft position sensor (Engine speed main sensor), Camshaft position sensor (Engine speed sub sensor).
Check that the sensor is installed to the proper position.
Were any failures found?
| Yes – Install the crankshaft position sensor (engine speed main sensor) and the camshaft position sensor (engine speed sub sensor) in proper locations. | No – Procedure completed. Clear all past DTCs. Check that no DTC is detected after test drive. |
